The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM Calcutta) has completed its summer placement process for the 63rd batch of its flagship two-year Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme, recording 100% placements for participating students. All 475 students secured summer internship offers, marking another successful recruitment season for the institute.
The placement process generated 546 offers from 156 companies, with the institute reporting its highest-ever average monthly stipend of ₹1.93 lakh. The median monthly stipend stood at ₹2 lakh.
The recruitment process concluded ahead of schedule during Cluster 3. IIM Calcutta also reported its highest number of Cluster 1 offers since introducing its cluster-cohort placement framework.
The results reflect recruiter participation across consulting, financial services, general management, marketing and technology-related roles.
The placement figures highlight the scale of recruitment and the range of internship opportunities available to the MBA batch.
| Placement parameter | Reported details |
|---|---|
| MBA batch | 2026–28 |
| Batch number | 63rd |
| Students placed | 475 |
| Placement percentage | 100% |
| Total offers | 546 |
| Participating companies | 156 |
| Average monthly stipend | ₹1.93 lakh |
| Median monthly stipend | ₹2 lakh |
| First-time recruiters | 51 |
The total number of offers was higher than the number of participating students. This is because the placement process generated multiple offers, rather than representing 546 separate students placed.
The average stipend of ₹1.93 lakh per month is the highest reported by the institute for its summer placement process. The median of ₹2 lakh indicates the midpoint of the stipend distribution, meaning half of the reported observations fall at or above that figure and half at or below it. These are different measures and should not be treated as interchangeable.
Consulting emerged as the largest recruitment segment, accounting for 220 offers, or approximately 40.29% of the total offers.
Major consulting recruiters included:
The opportunities covered management consulting, strategy consulting and specialised advisory roles. These positions generally involve business analysis, problem-solving, market research and strategic recommendations for organisations.
The strong representation of consulting firms highlights the continuing demand for management graduates who can work on complex business challenges across industries.
The finance sector accounted for 127 offers, representing approximately 23.26% of the total.
Recruitment opportunities covered several areas, including investment banking, private equity, venture capital, financial markets, asset and wealth management, and corporate finance.
Some of the participating financial institutions included:
These roles offer students opportunities to work in financial analysis, investment-related activities, capital markets and corporate financial decision-making.
General management and marketing together contributed 158 offers, accounting for approximately 28.94% of the total.
Recruiters in these segments included Aditya Birla Group, Airtel, Godrej, Hindustan Unilever, ITC, Nestlé, Procter & Gamble and Tata Administrative Services.
These opportunities provide exposure to areas such as brand management, business operations, corporate strategy, sales, marketing and leadership development.
The participation of established consumer goods companies and large business groups also demonstrates the range of career options available beyond consulting and finance.
Technology, digital and product management roles also attracted several prominent companies during the placement process.
Participating organisations included:
These opportunities reflect the growing intersection between management education and technology-driven businesses. Product management, digital strategy and technology-related business functions require professionals who can understand customer requirements, evaluate market opportunities and coordinate across technical and business teams.
The institute did not separately publish the number of offers made by each of these companies in the reported breakdown.
Another important feature of the 2026–28 summer placement season was the participation of 51 first-time recruiters.
Some of the companies joining the recruitment process for the first time included Asian Paints, Gridlines, L.E.K. Consulting, L’Oréal, Mondelez International, Raine Group, Samara Capital and UKG.
The addition of new recruiters expanded the range of organisations participating in the placement process. It also provided students with opportunities across different business segments, including consulting, consumer products, investment-related roles and technology.
The presence of both established recruiters and first-time participants contributed to the diversity of internship opportunities available to the batch.
IIM Calcutta Director Alok Kumar Rai said the placement outcomes reflected the industry's continued confidence in the institute, its students and its industry-aligned curriculum. He also acknowledged the contribution of corporate partners and alumni in mentoring students and preparing them for professional careers.
Sudarshan Kumar, Chairperson of Placements at IIM Calcutta, credited students for completing the recruitment process within a shorter timeframe while balancing their preferences with recruiters' requirements.
The institute also highlighted the student-led nature of the placement process and the support students provided to one another throughout the recruitment season.
Summer internships are an integral part of IIM Calcutta's two-year MBA programme. According to the institute, students undertake an eight-week industry internship after completing their first academic year, generally during April and May.
The internship gives students an opportunity to apply classroom concepts to practical business situations, work on organisational projects and understand professional environments.
It also helps students explore potential career paths before completing their MBA. Employers, meanwhile, get an opportunity to assess students' capabilities through project-based work and professional interaction.
For MBA aspirants, the latest placement results provide useful information about recruiter participation, internship opportunities and stipend trends at the institute. However, summer placement figures should be evaluated separately from final placement salaries, as internships and permanent employment represent different stages of a management programme.
Students comparing MBA colleges should also examine programme fees, curriculum, batch size, career support, internship structure and the detailed placement reports before making an admission decision.
