GATE 2027 Registration Postponed; IIT Madras Announces Revised Application and Exam Schedule

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), the organising institute for GATE 2027, has revised the registration and examination schedule for the upcoming Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering.
Under the revised timeline, the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) will open on August 27, 2026. The regular application deadline has also been extended to September 27, while candidates applying with a late fee will have until October 5, 2026.
A significant change has also been made to the examination schedule. GATE 2027 will now be conducted across six days — February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027 — instead of the four days announced earlier.

The application rectification dates remain unchanged despite the revision to the registration and examination schedule.
Candidates will now get additional time to complete their GATE applications.
The regular registration deadline, which was earlier September 21, has been moved to September 27, 2026.
Similarly, the extended registration deadline with a late fee has shifted from September 30 to October 5.
Students should still avoid waiting until the final day, particularly because the application requires academic information, documents, photographs and other candidate details.
Another major change concerns the examination calendar.
Instead of being conducted over four days, GATE 2027 will now take place across six examination days:
February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027.

GATE 2027 will feature 30 test papers, with candidates permitted to appear for either one paper or up to two papers from the combinations allowed by the organising institute.
