IIT JAM 2027 Registration: Eligibility, Exam Pattern, Fees, Important Dates and Admission Details

The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur is organising the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2027 for admission to postgraduate programmes across participating IITs and other institutes.
According to the latest information available on the official JAM 2027 portal, the application portal is scheduled to open on September 5, 2026, and the last date to submit the application is October 12, 2026. The examination will be conducted on February 14, 2027.
The earlier schedule reported the registration start date as September 12. However, candidates should follow the latest schedule displayed on the official JAM 2027 website before submitting their applications.
Applications will be submitted through the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS).

The official portal currently displays September 5 as the registration start date and March 18, 2027 as the result date.
Candidates who have completed their undergraduate degree or are appearing for the final examination of their qualifying undergraduate programme in 2027 can appear for JAM 2027.
There is no age restriction for the examination, and candidates of all nationalities are eligible to apply, subject to the admission requirements of the respective institute and programme.
However, clearing JAM does not by itself guarantee admission. Candidates must satisfy the eligibility requirements of the specific postgraduate programme to which they seek admission.
The qualifying undergraduate degree must be completed before admission, and candidates will have to provide the required proof within the prescribed timeline.
JAM 2027 will be conducted for seven subjects:
Candidates can appear for one or two test papers, but the two selected papers must be scheduled in different examination sessions.
The examination will be held on February 14, 2027, in two sessions.

Candidates opting for two papers can therefore select one paper from each session.
JAM 2027 will be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.
Each test paper will contain three sections:
This section consists of Multiple Choice Questions. Negative marking applies to incorrect responses in this section.
Section B contains Multiple Select Questions. Candidates may have to select more than one correct option. There is no negative marking in this section.
The final section consists of Numerical Answer Type questions. Candidates have to enter numerical answers using the virtual keyboard provided in the examination interface.
The examination also provides an online virtual calculator.
The application fee depends on the candidate's gender/category and the number of test papers selected.

The application fee is non-refundable. Candidates can make payment through available online methods including net banking, debit card, credit card, UPI and wallet.

The official JAM portal specifies that the photograph should be recent, in colour and in the prescribed dimensions and file format. The photograph uploaded during registration is also used on the JAM admit card and scorecard.
Candidates should ensure that names, dates of birth and other personal details are entered correctly and consistently in the application.
JAM provides a route to postgraduate programmes offered by participating IITs.
For the 2027 admission cycle, the official JAM portal lists 23 admitting IITs and more than 3,000 seats across a broad range of postgraduate programmes. These include programmes such as M.Sc., M.Sc.-M.Tech dual degrees, MS by Research, Joint M.Sc.-PhD and other advanced science programmes.
JAM scores are also shared with several other institutes. Candidates seeking admission through result-sharing institutes need to follow the admission process prescribed separately by those institutions.
A JAM score can open opportunities beyond a single IIT or postgraduate programme.
For the admitting IITs, the JAM organising institute coordinates the admission process. Qualified candidates can subsequently participate in the admission process through the designated portal.
For result-sharing institutes, candidates may need to apply directly to the respective institute after qualifying in JAM.
Therefore, students should not assume that qualifying the examination automatically completes the admission process. Programme-wise eligibility, application deadlines, seat availability and admission requirements should be checked separately.
