The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has started the online registration and examination-fee payment process for its October–November 2026 Vocational Education examinations.

The registration facility is available for learners who could not pass the April–May 2026 examination, as well as those who passed but want to improve their marks.

Candidates can register without paying a late fee from August 20 to September 3, 2026. NIOS's official vocational portal also lists the October–November 2026 examination-fee notification.

NIOS October–November 2026 Registration Dates

Regular RegistrationAugust 20 – September 3No late fee
First Late-Fee WindowSeptember 4 – September 8₹150 per subject
Final Late-Fee WindowSeptember 9 – September 13₹1,600 per learner

The late fees are charged in addition to the regular examination fee.

NIOS Examination Fee: ₹400 Per Subject

Candidates registering during the regular window must pay an examination fee of ₹400 per subject or module.

According to the notification, this amount covers the applicable components of:

  • Theory examination
  • Practical examination
  • Internal assessment

where relevant to the subject or module.

For example, a learner registering for three eligible subjects during the regular window would pay ₹1,200 in examination fees.

What If You Miss the September 3 Deadline?

NIOS has provided two additional registration windows.

Candidates registering between September 4 and September 8 must pay an additional late fee of ₹150 per subject, along with the normal ₹400 examination fee.

A final opportunity will be available between September 9 and September 13. During this period, learners will have to pay a consolidated late fee of ₹1,600 per learner, in addition to the normal examination fee.

Who Can Register?

The registration window highlighted in the notification is specifically for the October–November 2026 Vocational Education examination.

It covers learners who:

  • Could not pass the April–May 2026 examination, or
  • Passed but want to appear again to improve their marks.

Candidates should verify their individual eligibility through NIOS before paying the examination fee.

Registration Is Completely Online

NIOS has clarified that examination registration and fee payment must be completed online.

The notification specifically states that offline application forms and examination-fee payments will not be accepted.

Students can use the NIOS website or its dedicated Vocational Education portal.

Candidates should ensure that the payment is successfully completed and retain the transaction confirmation for their records.

How to Register for the NIOS Exam

Eligible students can complete the process online:

  1. Open the official NIOS or Vocational Education portal.
  2. Log in using the required learner credentials.
  3. Select the October–November 2026 examination registration option.
  4. Check the eligible subjects or modules.
  5. Select the subjects for which you want to appear.
  6. Verify your personal and academic information.
  7. Pay the applicable examination fee online.
  8. Submit the registration.
  9. Download or save the payment and application confirmation.

Candidates should review all information carefully before final submission.

Don't Confuse This With Fresh NIOS Admission

Students should note that this announcement concerns examination registration and fee payment for eligible existing learners. It is not the same as taking fresh admission to an NIOS programme.

Fresh admission, examination registration and improvement/reappearance are separate processes with their own eligibility requirements and timelines.

Candidates should therefore select the correct facility on the NIOS portal.

No Applications After the Final Deadline

NIOS has advised learners to complete the process within the prescribed schedule.

The final late-fee registration window ends on September 13, 2026, and applications will not be accepted after the notified deadline.

Waiting until the last day can also create avoidable problems if candidates encounter login or payment issues.

What Candidates Should Do Now

Eligible learners should first check the subjects or modules for which they need to appear.

Those ready to register should ideally complete the process before September 3 to avoid additional late fees.

After registration, candidates should regularly monitor official NIOS notifications for updates regarding the October–November examination schedule, practical examinations, admit cards and other instructions.
